Via del Respiro is completed: a unique route in Europe overlooking the lagoon.
“Via del Respiro” is the name of the bicycle path built along Via Pordelio, largely suspended over the water thanks to a steel structure on which a lane of massandaruba wood has been laid. Massandaruba is a tree native to Central and South America, reddish in colour and suitable for marine environments.
The work was completed at the end of July and the path will be fully accessible in the coming months. Built on a suspended structure for 6.5 of its total 8.5 kilometres, the path overlooks the Venetian lagoon, connecting Cavallino with Ca’ Savio, effectively allowing you to travel from one end of the town to the other. The start, on road terrain, is from Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta. In the background is the enviable and unique lagoon skyline. At Ca’ Savio, the road connects with the cycle path that runs along the Armeni seafront to Punta Sabbioni.
The sections on the road network all have specific signage, designed to enhance safety. The total cost of the project exceeded €20 million, of which approximately €13 million was borne directly by the municipality and almost €7 million by the Public Works Department. Along the route, lay-bys have been created: rest areas equipped with bicycle parking, public transport interchanges, charging stations for electric bicycles, drinking fountains and other services, including information boards with maps of the area.
Everything is wonderful. Everything is unique. And the dream has become reality.
