Work begins on new bicycle paths
The “Nuova Via delle Batterie” project, worth €7.2 million, will begin in autumn with the widening of the carriageway, a 3.5-kilometre cycle path, new parking spaces, access to the sea, redeveloped green areas, improved lighting, underground services and a roundabout to regulate traffic. At the same time, in Punta Sabbioni, Via Hermada and Via Montello are to be upgraded at a cost of €2.9 million, in a public-private partnership with Camping Marina di Venezia. The project includes making the roads safer, a cycle and pedestrian path, a mini roundabout in Via Adige, a waiting area for vehicles heading to the campsite and the widening of Via Montello with a bike lane. Both projects aim to improve traffic flow, safety and liveability. Also in Punta Sabbioni, the section of the Trieste-Venice cycle path developed on the east side of Via Lungomare San Felice has been opened to traffic, running alongside Forte Vecchio, passing through Via Forte Vecchio, and continuing to Via Fausta.
