The 2008 World Cycling Champion Alessandro Ballan was the guest of honour at the opening of the Ca’ Pasquali section, which completes the entire construction of the longest cantilevered bicycle path in Europe.
Alessandro, this is a bicycle path that is envied throughout Europe for its charm. How important is it for cyclists?
“You’re right: first and foremost, it’s important for safety. We know very well how dangerous it is to ride on the roads these days; staying out of traffic, in peace and quiet, with your family and children, is a great plus. It also allows you to relax and enjoy the scenery, which is particularly stunning here on the lagoon”.
Does that represent an added bonus?
“I don’t think there could be a better location for a bike path. We are talking about one of the most beautiful routes in the world, an attraction for all types of tourists. First of aff it is a very green form of tourism that doesn’t pollute the area, which is an added bonus for those visitors who really want to enjoy the area and iscover even the lesser-known places. So, it is definitely an added value for the territory.”
Today you were also recognised as Cavallino-Treporti’s “tourism ambassador”.
“Since I became a professional I’ve travelled the world, but I never got to see anything because I was focused on the races. Now I’m dedicating myself to just that: accompanying tourists, allowing me to see different places, with enough time to enjoy the scenery and share my passion for cycling”.
