Beloved by Mozart, so much so that he mentioned it in Don Giovanni, this wine is thought to have originated around Padua and then spread throughout Veneto, Friuli and, above all, Trentino. In Val d’Isera its best-known dry expression distinguishes itself by its ruby colour with splendid violet reflections and a fruity smell with notes of wild blackberry. It is usually paired with white meats but taste it with the famous ‘carne salada’ from Trentino, too. In the Veneto region, the sweet, or rather straw version is found in the hills of Conegliano, where the straw wine Refrontolo Passito originates. A sweet and fresh wine that pairs well with dry pastries and sublimely with Blu 61, a blue-veined cheese aged in berries produced in Carpenedo.
