A new, extraordinary programme for the International Organ Festival
Now in its third year, with nine concerts and a wealth of musical emotion, the Organ Festival reaffirms its status as one of the most significant events dedicated to organ music. We spoke to Roberto Bertuzzi, the event’s artistic director.
Director, what is the strength of this event?
“Over time, the Festival has established itself both nationally and internationally as a leading organ event, capable of combining artistic quality, promotion of the local area and international outreach. The calibre of the artists is outstanding: they come from Austria, Spain and Germany, as well as Italy.”
What is its distinctive feature?
“It is the concert venues: the Archpriest’s Church of the Holy Trinity in Treporti and the Church of Santa Maria Elisabetta in Cavallino, which house two authentic jewels of the Venetian organ-building tradition, both traceable to the school of Pietro Bazzani.”
Speaking of extraordinary occasions: the event on May 5th certainly was one…
“We had the honour of welcoming Paolo Oreni, who performed on his ‘Wanderer’ organ – an impressive mobile pipe organ, divided into modules, with a total of a thousand pipes. It is the largest mobile organ in the world.”
When is the next event?
“On Saturday 30th of May, we will welcome Thomas Weissmüller to the church in Cavallino; whilst on Tuesday 16th of June, Manuel Tomadin – one of the most award-winning Italian organists of his generation, with an international career and a significant discography – will perform in Treporti. In both cases, the concerts will begin at 9 pm.”
