With Forme d’Acqua, one of the souls of Ecosistem, Gianluca Orazio makes fountains. Born in Punta Sabbioni, the company is known all over the world. When did it all start? “In the year 2000 when I founded Ecosistem with my cousin, a service business for tourism that envisaged already a bond with water, in the form of irrigation systems and the first ponds”. How did you move on to fountains? “Thanks to the meeting with architect Simona Marta Favrin, who made it possible to merge two concepts and two visions, namely water and architecture. I remember the first one: a…

A unique discovery in Italy, destined to open up new scenarios on the history of the lagoon in Roman times has now become an exhibition inside the Natural History Museum in Venice. It all started with research carried out by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, which led to the discovery of a particular submerged archaeological site in the Venice lagoon, in the village of Lio Piccolo. It is here that underwater stratigraphic investigations, begun in 2021, have brought to light a brick and wooden plank tank containing around 300 oyster shells. A structure datable to the first century A.D. and…
More than a hundred years after the First World War, Europe has changed profoundly: peoples who were once enemies now share their holidays on the beaches of the Adriatic, including those of Venice and its lagoon. During the conflict, those same waters were traversed by battleships and submarines, while airships, seaplanes and biplanes took to the skies. From the 24th of May 1915 Venice had been a strategic port for the Italian Navy while the Arsenal produced ships, armaments and equipment. After Caporetto, in November 1917, Austro-German troops invaded the Veneto region and stopped at the Piave river, the last…

An extraordinary woman welcomes us to the Vettor Pisani Battery Museum. She is Dr Clelia Lollini. A medical lieutenant, specialised in surgery, she also fought the battles to demolish the prejudice that relegated women to roles of lesser responsibility, even on the health front. With great courage, during the First World War, she put on her gown, entered the operating room and saved the lives of many soldiers. It is thanks to technology that we can get to know this great character. She, in fact, is one of the two holograms (the other represents Vice Admiral Paolo Thaon di Revel)…

The event celebrates the area’s bond with the water, evocative of the period of around sixty years ago, when local farmers used to reach the Venice market in their boats to sell their products, often starting real boat races across the lagoon. A spirit evoked by the Palio delle Re miere, this year scheduled for Satur day 14th and Sunday 15th of June in Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta in Cavallino. Competing for the Palio will be the caorline, typical lagoon boats. An evocative and fascinating event to follow. THE CONTRADES The 12 districts of Cavallino-Trepor ti that will compete are:…
Sun Salutation is the best known sequence of positions and is taught by almost all yogic traditions. There are numerous varia tions of it and it can be practised by anyone, from absolute beginners to A experts. It is beneficial at any time of the day; however, it is best practised in the morning, immediately after waking up. In this way, the beneficial effects manifest themselves earlier and more intensely.
