The event celebrating the region’s deep connection with the water and lagoon traditions returns.
It is one of the region’s most cherished events: the Palio Remiero delle Contrade di Cavallino-Treporti, now in its twenty-fourth year. The event recalls the days when, some sixty years ago, local farmers would travel to the fruit and vegetable market in Venice, at Rialto, aboard their own boats to sell their produce. These crossings often turned into veritable challenges between rowers to secure the best spots at the market. It is precisely that spirit of competition and community that lives on today in the Palio delle Contrade, scheduled for Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of June in Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta, Cavallino. Competing for the Palio will be the ‘caorline’, the traditional boats of the Venetian lagoon.

THE PRIZE AND THE EXHIBITION
The Palio d’Arte, awarded to the winner, was created by the artist Ernesto De Marchi, whose work was chosen from among the 14 entries in the Palio d’Arte competition. All the works will be on display at the ‘Pascoli’ cultural centre and can be viewed from the 19th to the 21st and from the 26th to the 28th of June, on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 pm to 7 pm, and on Sundays from 10 am to 12 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.
