Why should men do yoga?
Many people think that yoga is ‘only for women’. Nothing could be more wrong!
Originally, the traditional practice in ancient India was only available to men, and even later only very few women were allowed to practise it. Today in the West, the situation has completely changed.
It is normal for men to prefer sports activities aimed at increasing physical strength by toning and strengthening their muscles. Often, however, there is a tendency to neglect stretching and relaxation exercises, which could alleviate and compensate for the muscle stiffness associated with strength training. Rather than the pursuit of balance, there is a tendency to move away from it. Yoga, taking purely the physical aspect into consideration, not only increases flexibility, but also strength, in a completely different way to what one is used to in traditional sports training.
So, dear men, if you haven’t thought about it yet, now is the time: come and give yoga a try!
