A member of the jury of the Venice Film Festival Venice, Cavallino-Treporti director Alessio Nardin recently participated, invited by Unesco as a speaker, in a world conference in Dubai as part of the International Monodrama Festival. In August he will be in Brazil and, in September, in Egypt. His is the extraordinary story of a dream come true that takes him around the world. Without ever forgetting his land.
Alessio, how did your passion for directing and theatre start?
“I started doing theatre when I was 12, in middle school, with Goldoni’s I Rusteghi. I was convinced I was shy, and when the teacher proposed his idea, I decided I had to be part of that project. In short, a challenge with myself…”
Then what happened?
“I continued my schooling, I graduated in engineering and started working as a researcher at the university of Padua. In short, a secure career; but, at a certain point, I turned completely around and decided to dedicate myself to what I liked best. I was 25 years old and had many projects, starting with theatre, which I approached in a non-traditional way.”
I would say that this was a winning choice…
“I have been lucky and stubborn, this profession has allowed me to make important encounters and extraordinary experiences”.
As we described in the introduction. And in Cavallino-Treporti?
“I make my living far from here, but I am trying in some way to give back what the territory has given me; and I must say that, from this point of view, I have met a very sensitive municipal administration. For a few years now, I have been ahead of “La piazza delle arti”, a theatre festival that is really giving us a lot of satisfaction.”
