When someone starts to move, it is important that the body is not seen as an opponent to be defeated but an ally. We are accustomed to the attitude that the harder we try, the faster we achieve success. In yoga this is not entirely true. If you force the body into positions for which it is not yet ready, it will defend itself against such impulses: the muscles will shorten and harden to protect itself from being pulled.
Furthermore, the meditative nature of the lesson is lost if the attention is distracted by an intense effect. It is the acceptance or non-acceptance of the current situation that makes the difference. Let us practise accepting each movement, each posture, each breath as it is. Sooner or later, yoga becomes letting go of the effort. And we will always be more capable and healthy, both physically and mentally!
