Thanks to their great decorative versatility and their ‘lack’ of a pot, Tillandsias are populating our homes. But what are they and how do these fascinating grey-green clumps live?
Tillandsias are epiphytic plants that grow on trees in tropical forests. They have very few roots, that they use to attach themselves to other trees.
To care for it at home, use an orchid fertiliser diluted to 25% once every two months. Water it very day in summer and every 4 to 7 days in winter, depending on the humidity inside the house. You can simply spray it or, if it is large, soak it for about twenty minutes, then turn it upside down to let the excess water drain off. In summer it likes to be in the open air, in a well lit area but not under direct sunlight.
