Jury Chechi, gold medallist in Atlanta 1996 and bronze medallist in Athens 2024 (immediately after a major injury), speciality rings, now a well-known face on television, was the special guest at the first edition of the Sports Fair, held at the Cavallino Urban Park, with the participation of over 25 local associations and sports organisations.
Jury, first of all welcome to Cavallino-Treporti. What was your impression?
‘For me it is the first time and it was a wonderful surprise, I saw wonderful places. I will definitely come back during the summer, with my family, to enjoy even more all these places I was able to visit’.
You are among many young people: what message do you want to send them?
‘The importance of practicing a sport, finding the discipline that they are most passionate about, that makes them feel good. If, then, the results also come, all the better, but that should not be the first goal when you start playing a sport’.
You have a long career behind you: what has it taught you?
‘A lot. And today, even with so many faults that I try every day to improve, I think I am a better person because of what sport has taught me, starting with realising that every fall is still a part of winning’.
You have won a lot…
‘True, but the defeats have been more numerous than the victories. What makes the difference is the way you get back on your feet, trying to understand why it happened, why you weren’t able to achieve the goals you had set for yourself’.
In Cavallino-Treporti you were surrounded by the affection of a lot of people, old and young…
‘I have won many medals in my career, but it is just as nice and important to have this kind of gratification, the affection that people spontaneously show you. It’s a huge gift, especially the one I get from young kids’.
