The 22nd edition of the Palio Remiero, the event traditionally linked to the Palio d’Arte, will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June in Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta in Cavallino. The event, sponsored and supported by the Municipality, Assocamping and Parco Turistico, is organized by Remiera Cavallino in collaboration with the associations Litorale Runner, Tra Mar e Laguna, Gruppo Ristoratori, Contrada Cavallino and Gruppo Parrocchiale Ca’ Vio-Cavallino. The event commemorates the ancient tradition of local farmers who, until 70 years ago, crossed the lagoon to get to the Rialto market in Venice and sell their products there. Often there are real races on the water: whoever arrived first won the best stalls on the market.
The Races: Palio Young
Among the novelties of the next edition is the Palio Young, which will take place on Sunday morning, June 16, and will include Venetian rowing regattas among the promising young talents of the lagoon rowing clubs and canoe races. The afternoon program on Sunday 16th begins with the women’s regatta on the two-row mascarete, together with the clubs of the municipality, which the new Palio wanted to include together with the traditional districts. Afterwards, the traditional sprint regatta will take place between the eight Caorline boats representing the Cavallino-Treporti districts: Piave Vecchia-Cavallino-Ca’ di Valle, Ca’ Ballarin, Ca’ Pasquali-Ca’ Vio, Ca’ Savio, Saccagnana, Treporti, Punta Sabbioni and Lio Piccolo-Mesole.
The Palio exhibitions
A photo exhibition on the history of Caorline boats will be set up at the Pascoli Cultural Center. Part of the exhibition is also dedicated to the numerous successes achieved by the boats Lio Piccolo, Treporti and Cavallino in the historic Venice Regatta in the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition opens on Saturday 15th afternoon. The presentation of Mauro Cortella’s new travel book will also follow at the Pascoli Center. On Saturday afternoon, the 15th, the exhibition of the Cavallino-Treporti associations will also take place in the historic square. The two evenings of the Palio will feature food and wine stalls as well as live music with Roberto Rossi and Dany Live Band.
