The 82nd Venice Film Festival is expecting many stars
The Lido di Venezia is ready for the new edition of the International Film Festival, which promises to be full of glamour. To the delight of fans who will flock to the Palazzo del Cinema, many movie stars will grace the red carpet: from Julia Roberts, making her first appearance, to George Clooney, a loyal regular at the Festival, to Jude Law, Emma Stone, Emily Blunt and Kate Blanchet, to name a few.
The event, which runs from August 27th to September 7th, is characterised by the image of a fantastical Venice, seen from its rooftops and chimneys, created by Manuele Fior, one of the most successful Italian cartoonists and illustrators of recent years. Actress Emanuela Fanelli will host the opening and closing ceremonies, announcing the winners from the stage of the Sala Grande.
Among the films in competition, six directors are participating for the Golden Lion for the first time, five have already won an Oscar, seven have already won a Golden Lion for Best Film in Venice, and four have won a Silver Lion – the Grand Jury Prize. There will be five Italian films in competition. The 82nd edition of the Festival will close with Chien 51 by Cédric Jimenez, a dystopian film starring Louis Garrel and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi.
This year’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will be awarded to two leading figures in international cinema: American actress Kim Novak and German director and screenwriter Werner Herzog.
