The president of Assocamping, Francesco Berton, gives us a recap of the accommodation facilities that make Cavallino-Treporti the most important open-air resort in Europe.
A few days ago the Union Lido campsite celebrated 70 years of history: an important anniversary for the coastal town as well.
“It’s important because, until we came, there were only sporadic tourists in our area; that entrepreneurial initiative kicked off a path (followed immediately by other big realities) that today puts us in the lead in Italy, in terms of presences, and in Europe as for the type of accommodation we offer”.
Right from the start, the guests were mainly German-speaking..
“With our offer, an important response was given to a need that came above all from German-speaking countries, which immediately believed in this type of holiday. A tourism that has become loyal over time and that has become, in turn, an “ambassador” of our holiday”.
How did the proposal develop?
“Our strength right from the start was to create a tourist offer that respects the environmental characteristics of this area. Over the years, we have significantly increased our services’ offer (including dedicated services, catering, water parks, animation, entertainment…), while still maintaining, each one’s own character. In a diversity that makes us unique, in an area that has grown as a whole”.

THE NUMBERS OF HOSPITALITY
There are currently 28 campsites in Cavallino-Treporti, occupying an area of almost 3 million square metres and accommodating about 65 thousand customers a day. Nearly 7 million presences are registered each year.
70 YEARS OF HISTORY
Founded in 1955, the Union Lido campsite was the first to be fully set up in Italy. It was founded by Angelo Macola and Ignazio Vok to accommodate the employees of the German car manufacturer Nsu, under the name “Nsu Lido”. It was the first five-star campsite in Italy; today it is one of the largest in Europe with its 72 hectares and 1.2 million visitors.
