The event celebrates the area’s bond with the water, evocative of the period of around sixty years ago, when local farmers used to reach the Venice market in their boats to sell their products, often starting real boat races across the lagoon. A spirit evoked by the Palio delle Re miere, this year scheduled for Satur day 14th and Sunday 15th of June in Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta in Cavallino. Competing for the Palio will be the caorline, typical lagoon boats. An evocative and fascinating event to follow.
THE CONTRADES
The 12 districts of Cavallino-Trepor ti that will compete are: Faro Piave – yellow caorlina; Cavallino-Ca’ di Valle – orange caorlina; Mesole-Lio Piccolo – purple caorlina; Ca’ Savio green caorlina; Ca’ Pasquali-Ca’ Vio – red caorlina; Punta Sabbioni – white caorlina; Ca’ Ballarin – pink caorlina; Treporti-Saccagnana – li ght blue caorlina.
THE RACE
The race will take place in the Por delio canal on Sunday 15th of June, between Ca’ Ballarin and Cavallino. This year’s Palio d’Arte, which will be won by the first caorlina to arrive at the finish line, has been created by Umberto Menetto, a Venetian artist who has proposed a work depicting the lagoon with regatta boats, fi shing nets, briccole and a large sun to illuminate the scene. There will be food and wine stands in the square.
